We invite you to answer a survey on improvements we may make to open response assessment grading in future.
When you submit a response to an open response assessment, you may have to wait for your submission may be reviewed and graded by:
- yourself. This is called the self grading step. You'll receive your self-assessment score as soon as you assess yourself and submit.
- your peers in the course. This is called the peer grading step. You will be required to review the submissions of other learners, and you may have to wait for a grade from your peers. In most courses, you can expect to wait one week.
- your instructors. This is called the staff grade step. You may have to wait for a grade from course staff.
If you view your assignment, a message will indicate Waiting if your submission is pending grading by staff or a peer.
On a peer-graded assessment, if you're waiting a message will read, 'You have graded the required number of your peers. You are waiting for your peers to finish grading your work. You will have completed this step once your peers have finished grading your response. Check back periodically to see if there is an update. Optionally, you may also grade more peers while you wait.'
On a staff-graded assessment, if you're waiting a message will read, 'All assignment steps are completed. Your final grade is not ready yet. Your final grade will be ready once the instructor has finished grading your response. Check back periodically to see if there is an update.'
Note: Course staff can grade your ORA if you're waiting on peer assessments. To request that staff manually grade your ORA, you should reach out to course staff through the course discussion forum.
